Located at the west border of Shanghai Economic Zone in the Yangtze Delta,
Pukou District is a new district of Nanjing on the bank of the Yangtze River. It
has an area of 902 square kilometers and a population of 520,000.
The
district enjoys convenient traffic and transportation facilities. There are four
national roads i.e. No.312,328, 205 and 104 National Roads, five railways i.e.
Beijing-Shanghai, Shanghai-Nanjing, Nanjing-Qidong, Nanjing-Xi'an and
Tianjin-Nanjing Railways run either longitudinally or transversely through it.
Besides the Shandong-Nanjing Oil Transfer Pipeline and West-East China Natural
Gas Transfer Pipeline also go through it.
The golden water passage of
the Yangtze River within the district is 50km long. It is close to Nanjing
Xinshengwei International Container Wharf and Longtan Port, the biggest river
port of China. It is 300km away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Pudong
International Airport, 0.5 hour's drive from Nanjing Lukou International Airport
and 1 hour's drive from Hefer Airport of Anhui Province.
Fine ecological
environment. It has the north subtropic monsoon climate and distinct four
seasons. The normal average annual temperature is 15.3. There are in the
district the "One-Hill and Three-Spring" Natural Scenic Spot, Riverside Scenic
Belt and a great number of famous historical relics. The Laoshan Forest Park
with an area of 100000 mu can be compared to the "Green Lungs" of the city and a
natural "Oxygen Bar".
Dominant superiority in human resources. In this
district are located 13 higher-learning institutions including Nanjing
University, Southeast University, Nanjing University of Technologies, Nanjing
College of Auditing and a large number of scientific research institutes. The
college students studying at schools total 80000 in number. Therefore the
economy and the enterprises of the district never lack in high-quality personnel
of all specialties and technical support.
