Jiangning District has 17 towns, 3 subdistrict offices, a population of 760,000 and a total area of 1,600 km2.

Jiangning District enjoys a long history and there now exist 24 sites of municipal-level cultural relics in it. The District has formed an industrial pattern that is characterized by taking export-oriented economy as the leading factor and industry as the main body and achieving coordinated development of the three industries.

The four pillar industries of household products of light industry, food processing, new building materials, and automotive electronics have already shape in the District. The primary industry in it is oriented to the metropolitan agriculture and sightseeing agriculture. In the service sector, the District has witnessed speedy development in tourism, education, banking, insurance, information and community services.
