A reporter learned from Nanjing Custom that from January to April, Jiangsu
Port imported 53 thousand tons of sugar worth US$24.2 million, up 352.4 times
and 368.6 times over the same period of last year. According to the
introduction, the volume of import from Cuba reached 52 thousand tons,
accounting for 98.1% of total volume. The average import price increased and
reached US$460.2 per ton, an increase of 4.6%.
Officials of Custom said that the import volume of sugar of Jiangsu saw a
sudden increase because the agreement that China import 400 thousand tons of
sugar from Cuba every year has been carried out. The import of sugar may impact
Chinese sugar industry. Officials of Custom suggested that relative departments
should continue to strengthen the management of sugar import quota to avoid
cheap sugar's entry into China. |
