In 2006, "Historical Material Volumes of Nanjing Massacre" were officially issued. These books reflect the historical facts of Nanjing Massacre. "Historical Material Volumes of Nanjing Massacre" was regarded as "Top 10 Cultural Items in Nanjing".

Editor in chief Zhang Xianwen introduced that in 1950s, Chinese and Japanese historians have engaged in research of history of Nanjing Massacre. In recent 6 years, historians of Nanjing University combined scholars of Nanjing Normal University, Jiangsu Social Science Academy, and Nanjing Archives to compile "Historical Material Volumes of Nanjing Massacre".

Zhang Xianwen said that after the first 28 volumes of "Historical Material Volumes of Nanjing Massacre" were published, they have gained a batch of new historical materials of Nanjing Massacre. In August 2006, scholars found a war diary written by a Japanese brainman. He recorded the condition that the 13th division of Japanese army killed about 20 thousand Chinese soldiers.

Zhang Xianwen said that they would publish about 20 volumes of historical materials at the 70th anniversary of commemorating victims murdered in Nanjing Massacre. It is reported that the new 20 volumes will include indictment and judgment words of Tokyo Trial.
