Tamaro was born in 1985 in Australia. She was only a university student in
her country before coming to China. By chance, she saw an enrollment ad. of
Sujiao International in Australia, hence leading to her trip to China without
hesitation. She chose Nanjing, a city famous for its long and plentiful
history.
"I love China which has a civilization of 5,000 years. I love Nanjing very
much", said Tamaro, "I once went to Shanghai which is very beautiful and modern.
But in my mind, Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum, the Ming Tomb and Fuzimiao Area are
more attractive.
As commented by Tamaro, she believes she has found the source of Chinese
culture. Clothing, culture and food in Fuzimiao are marked by profound Chinese
characteristics. And she has found the very Chinese culture in her dream in the
past. Delicate combs, elegant silk-scarves and classical mirrors, she has bought
a lot of special gifts for her friends in Australia, such as delicate combs,
elegant silk-scarves and classical mirrors, "I love these special gifts. I will
share them with my friends after I get back to Australia", said Tamro.
However, Nanjing is still so different from what Tamaro imagines. "Nanjing is
a metropolis of comprehensive international culture. I have never thought
Nanjing is so modern. Girls in Nanjing are also very beautiful and tender.
Residents in Nanjing are very warmhearted", said Tamaro.
Since her arrival in China, she has felt deeply about the kindness of people
in Nanjing. She came to China at the end of July that year. In July, Australia
is in cold winter while China in hot summer. The sharp change in temperature
made Tamaro sick at first. Her colleagues and leaders of the institute took good
care of her and brought delicious food to her. In order to make her feel full in
everyday life, they even bought "China Daily" from the city-proper to her.
Cultivating confidence among children
When the reporter interviewed Tamaro at 21st Bio-language School, she was
giving a lesson to pupils of Grade Four. All pupils were divided in three
groups. Tamaro chose one group for word spelling and wrote down their marks on
the blackboard. As all children wanted to get the highest marks, they became
very active since their interest in study was greatly stimulated.
Tamaro believes Chinese children are very clever and lovely. "They are very
considerate, and they respect teachers very much", said Tamro, "They need
confidence so much."
Australian children are more naughty. They participate in summer camps
because their parents are often busy with work. Summer camps are always held
near lakes or at the foot of mountains. They swim or BBQ. But summer camps in
China are featured by concentrating on teaching knowledge to children. Children
in Australia are more light-hearted.
As introduced by Tamaro, at the beginning, among over 20 Chinese pupils in
her class, only one to two pupils raised hands to answer questions. But now,
more and more pupils have got confidence in actively answering questions in
class. Now, Tamaro is still actively looking for teaching ways more suitable to
Chinese children. |
