Established in 1984, the Yung Brocade Museum is a showcase of the history of
brocade weaving in China with a review of the artistic characteristics and the
artistic achievements of the Yung brocade.
The Yung brocade is a kind of
high-grade silk which came into being in the Yuan dynasty and prospered in the
Ming and Qing dynasties. Throughout the history it was only available to the
court as a tribute.
Because of the demanding requirements of skill and
quality, several weavers working at a single machine can only a segment of silk
as long as 5-6 cm. Therefore there is an ancient saying in China to the effect
that the Yung brocade is more precious than gold. |
