Lin Sanzhi (1898¡ª1989), born in Jiangpu County, Jiangsu Province, is one of
the most famous personalities in China¡¯s modern history as a calligrapher,
artist, and poet. He is noted for his equal excellence in poetry, calligraphy
and painting.
The gallery is built on the hill of Qiuyu (Pray for Rain),
to the west of the seat of Jiangpu County. After its completion on December 6,
1992, it is open to the public. As it is set on the hill and close to a lake,
the gallery appears to be in a fantastic disorder, typical of the classical
Chinese garden structure. Inside the gallery, 210 pieces of calligraphy and
paintings donated by Lin Sanzhi are on display, among which is his painting
entitled Jiangpu in Springtime. |
