"Eight Wonders" of Qinhuai

As local delicacies of Nanjing, they enjoy a long history dating back to the Six Dynasties and a great variety as many as over 80 kinds. Some of them are made of meat and fish and some made of vegetables in sweet and salty flavors.

Among them, "Eight Wonders"of Qinhuai(eight kinds of pastries)distinguish themselves amazingly.

The first wonder refers to Huangqiao sesame cakes, dried shrimp meat and soy-bean slices served at Yongheyuan restaurant. The second wonder refers to beef soups and lightly fried beef dumplings served at Jiangyouji restaurant.

The third wonder refers to jellied bean curds and cakes fried with green onion served at Liufengju restaurant. The fourth wonder refers to crispy cakes fired with duck oil and steamed pies with assorted vegetables served at Qifangge restaurant. The fifth wonder refers to soy-bean slices fired with sesame oil and noodles with sliced chicken served at Qifangge restaurant.

The sixth wonder refers to small glutinous rice-dumplings sandwiched by sweet-scented osmanthus and small glutinous rice-cakes in five colors served at Lianghu Glutinous Rice-Cake Shop. The seventh wonder refers to fine noodles with smoked fish and thinly wrapped pork pies served at Zhanyuan noodle restaurant. The eighth wonder refers to broad-beans and eggs respectively with five different tastes served at Kuiguangge restaurant.
